The value of this book lies in exploring the history of political philosophy. It explores the ideas that were offered, but less clear and to the point that Francione’S HOW TO SAVE America and the world. This is a good reference book if you want to explore the different views on political issues. But it lacks the examination of the logical reasons behind many of these views. Moreover, it is unnecessary in many areas and would be much shorter. I’ve been bored and had to scan rather than read portions of many Rating: 3 / 5
I’m at a loss for words, how disturbing I found this book and the ideas expressed. First, Sowell promises to build in this book and teach the reader a simple device that allows the spiritual efforts worldwide to reduce the complexity, sophisticated ideas to a single program heuristic device that is simple enough that an early age could get 12 years. This is equivalent to academic political theory is observed to Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck on TV. This is a book on how to learn, things in black and white, us and them, liberal and conservative, utopian and tragic. It gives the reader a series of simple tools that are powerful because most of the history and the political and social theory can be applied. This is a reductionist dualism at the core of contemporary Republican politics in the United States of America and defined the zeitgeist of the post-1994 Republican Party in American politics. If your political theory is sophisticated and smart, you will be disappointed in this respect. But if you want to defend learn to scream the secret to winning games Republican Talking Points on blogs and Internet message boards policy, this book is a powerful tool in your belt. Rating: 2 / 5
It’s all or nothing with Mr. Sowell, but it is the nature with most things. That, I think some of his books (such as Black Rednecks …) are convincing and useful discussion of fuel, it falls flat. As every way for a political position-specific (and he does – his brilliance is that he can not hide well, although his objectivity I) doubt that he thinks is right – it says in the use of words every time he touches the “traditional” left / right debate, etc. The basic requirement is surprising that a repetition of the title. The ideological origins of political struggles? Sounds like a desperate college student paper by a demanding political recognition of Sciences seeking written. Imagine the politics – which, if you think of Hannah Arendt thesis on the subject, as in On Revolution, the process of human interaction and debate – has ideological roots? Amazing, really. I could never make this kind of logic all on me. Please forgive my sarcasm – the book is well written and thoughtful – but he told me something I already knew. I saw a lot of work Sowell in the lists that are “essential” for all American citizens, but after reading this is my opinion of him somewhat mitigated. Rating: 3 / 5
It is possible to believe that man can advance even without progress radically idealistic belief in fairy tales without merit. We are now on the edge of technology, the change in the nature of what it means to be human. Thus, an analysis of the permanent boundaries of man on one side or rejection of such a restriction is limited in other somewhat limited. What we need is a moving moment for moment of realism about the current limits while working on many of these limitations as possible to overcome. Not one or the other. And what of the man as a heroic and not the human being as flawed? Rating: 3 / 5
As with most books is primarily analytical, this volume does not synthesis. Sowell then the false dichotomy he presents love between liberals and conservatives, the forces of many thinkers in one category or another, though of course no view of human nature is full or limited informal. Humanity is a mixture of the possibilities and limitations. No, but those crazy liberals attribute to the perfection of man, as we call it only the toughest man of conservative views as entirely without reason, his altruistes.Sowell categorizations are, of course, but something easy to classify many readers of a certain writer, then reflexively embrace or to reject his ideas. However, some ideas have value and dismissed some of the wrong direction charge.Plus useful assumed to be the books – instead of generalizing and tempting the reader to ask in one camp or another place – the reader to follow the threads of philosophical and political conclusions logically and to observe.
