Civil disobedience (original title: Resistance to Civil Government) by Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) This paper was a time when slavery was still legal, and had written the U.S. Army invaded Mexico, serve as a catalyst for dissent against Thoreau unjust government. His emphasis on the primacy of the individual – and he does not believe that the individual must serve “the state, especially if the state of his most memorable quotes injuste.Certaines included: – The mass of men serve the state does not, as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies .- (State) is not armed with superior intelligence or honesty, but with superior physical strength. I was born to not be forced .- If I have a government that says meet, “Your money or your life, why should I be in haste to give it my money? Ironic as it sounds, what has been written by Thoreau in the Congress in 1849 remains true today: “Our legislature has not yet learned the comparative value of free trade and of liberation, unity and righteousness of a nation. They have “produced no genius or talent for comparatively humble questions of taxation and finance, trade and agriculture. If we are alone on the wordy wit of legislators in Congress for our guidance, uncorrected by the left” contemporary experience and effective complaints of the people that America will not long retain her rank among the nations. “Thoreau concludes that” there is never a free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as an independent power and higher, from which all power and authority of its derivatives, and treats him accordingly. “This could serve as a primer for the movement Tea Party! Henry David Thoreau “Resistance to Civil Government” – or “civil disobedience” as it was called – is an essential part of American literature, culture and history. More remarkable still is the indisputable proof that the great literature can be a real influence on the world, even long after it is written and ignored. The test is recognized worldwide as the first text of civil disobedience, that is known, the non-violent protest, and its effect was low on the peaks, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, then sealed his immortality. This alone makes it essential tous.Cependant, it is easy to forget that the essay is a masterpiece in itself. Essentially a very personal expression of the doctrine of the autonomy of Thoreau’s mentor Emerson applied to the Government, it has a wealth of depth and nuance, despite its brevity. The words are rare, but the endless consequences, he has enough food for thought proverbial life. The main thing is clear, but the consequences are very different, speaking many different people. The work of nature – and Thoreau in general – is such that she and her are each defended by neo-conservatives to libertarians, liberals, and the only really important thing is that all are justified. This underlines the importance of reading the test for us mêmes.Sa main query is: “What Is the person must state?” The answer is a resounding “Nothing. Thoreau, the maxim that the government that governs best, at least until to its logical conclusion for someone who does not work at govern hope – is brave few have dared to take them seriously or to understand at all. He made a stand very principles of individual rights and autonomy, argues convincingly that people should be in able to go about their business without interference. Of course this is very similar to the current position is libertarian and supports almost never better. Many questions and implicit – of the protests against the taxation, conscription, etc. – also seem to support it. However, it is important to remember that the crux section and test the most famous – Thoreau because of a night in jail for refusing a poll tax to pay because he was not supporting the war or slavery – and is extremely liberal. Few issues have been central to today’s liberalism as an anti-war and slavery is a major cause of the liberal era. All of this set must be kept in mind in the middle of the numerous attempts to Thoreau, to reduce a current platform of the party. It was too simple and too complex for this and would not be affected and reduced, or test the justifier.Integral that this is the focus of work without a doubt a new argument autonomy beyond the immediate practical considerations. Thoreau was certainly a practical political series, especially compared to the idealists at Emerson, but he thinks that individuality more sacred than anything else. He explained this in detail elsewhere, but it is very present here. His work is in many ways the best form of self-help materials – and, unlike the bulk of the current self-help shelves courage litter, is intellectually and aesthetically. Thoreau was the greatest writers of the local background can be imagined, but his desire to look to deep into the eternal truths in all found him an inspiration to millions and millions of people across the political spectrum and around the world. This essay is an important part of his heritage, and thus one of the few works that should literally read each. Few people can look the same, and it will change many lives, is nothing less than one of the most important documents ever written, and its value can not easily be overstated. It is an excellent introduction for newcomers to Thoreau, and those that should not as its spirit in order to open it immediately – and done once done, they conclude jamais.Note: 5.5
Thoreau wrote of the “duty of civil disobedience” is brilliant! I have long been a fan of the writings of the HDT was, and once traveled to Walden to see the hut, but he lived a short time. This book is cited as often as required reading for those seeking to advocate the violent protests. While I clearly see why it provides useful information for those purposes, I found myself disappointed by the rustic, “Whiskey Rebellion” way of thinking anti-tax advocates also benefits them in some of the players being from the state. I am now in conflict. I find the writings and the man of genius, even in cases where I disagree with the extent of his anti-tax position. Rating: 5.5
