I probably heard Patty Griffin’s songs a million times different. It is the only artist that I never tire of hearing. There are times when I hear new music, a couple of times before it gets to me, but with an old church, she had me from beginning to end. This record is exactly what I wanted to hear. Rating: 5 / 5
I have reviewed this on the website of the UK, if I had heard that broadcast live. Now I had the album for a few days, and it is perhaps even better than I thought. An album built very much with gospel singing, he has had enough of his typical ‘Patty’s “do not deter those who are not gospel. There are some wonderful singers on this album from Emmylou Harris to Raul Malo Regina McCrary exquisite instrumental touches, there is a delicious Selection of players led by Buddy Miller (convinces Patty to this album ever in the downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville, gives an authentic) and over all hovers the voice of Patty, the best of modern pop music. It is the only artist I can the post every time down. Hard to say why she and others do not, but his voice, his story songs, empathetic support are all completely timeless. For true evangelical inspiration, listen to mount or, if it were up to me to try to Rockabilly I Smell A Rat Rock. Second, the classic jazz, listen to Wade in the Water and hear “typical” Patty, visit the beautiful house to me or Never Grow Old. And too long is a special version of the old spiritual, we met all, and a straight interpretation of the charm of traditional hymn All Creatures of Our God and King, John Deadrick with only the piano sound. This is the album of the year so far, and when I hear more throughout the year, I am very surprised considered. Essential, and buying even more important. Brilliant beyond words. Rating: 5 / 5
With ‘Church Downtown, Patty Griffin presented the audience with a selection of gospel songs, including some traditional numbers. I think she has heard one of the most expressive voice and soul of popular music today compared to previous albums, her voice has matured a little, but she has not lost the advantage of its special emotional and sentimental – it is still there from Simmering . ‘Downtown Church, “especially in downtown Nashville Presbyterian Church will be included Patty’s with the singing of the chair, she is supported by a number of other artists, some of whom attended the recent visits are joined (see sample playlist). I do not that the album quite recapture the clarity and the sheer emotion of “Living With Ghosts’ and with only 2 self-penned songs, this is not an album that shows his talent for singing – a writer. But I think it represents a significant departure “Children Running Through,” which, I believe, an album was produced music and performed with a wider audience and more commercial spirit. By comparison, “Down Church Church” has a biological meaning, no doubt – that is a lot compared to the Gospels pop ‘,’ the ‘Up To The Mountain “or even cathartic” continuously “to” The Impossible Dream. ” (Coaching semi-instrumental sound with keyboards and electric guitars, but they are never obtrusive) and drums / percussion (on some tracks), the album a little boost of rhythmic than most of his others. The songs are mainly slow to medium tempo, but there are some up-tempo, some comments about my favorite songs: House of Gold (Hank Williams) – A mesmerizing interpretation of this classic country-gospel with the words down the apocalyptic atmosphere . Sung primarily to the accompaniment of acoustic guitar and organ weak (acoustic bass and occasional electric guitar), no drums, percussion / (I heard). Little Fire (Patty Griffin) – Slow Beautiful-tempo style in a classic ‘Patty’s’. It has electric guitar and soft sounds plaintive pedal steel, bass and acoustic and delicate brushed drums. Support Emmylou Harris harmonies vocales.IF after I would (Samson and Delilah) (Traditional / Rev. Gary Davis) – Up-tempo with Patty and the McCrary Sisters sing during a call and response mode – we guarantee that you receive from your chair and hands clapping. resonant, twangy electric guitar and Super drums percussion /. begins Just when the song really comes to groove it ends (but you can always play again). Virgen de Guadalupe (Traditional) – Patty was certainly an instinct voice when she sings in Spanish – if you have song “Mil Besos like” want too (albeit a different style) provide the singing. Smooth harmonies, Raul Malo – over acoustic guitar, double bass, accordion and piano for the taste of Mexican tempo song lent.TOUS creatures we God and King (Traditional) – The 13th. century hymn, written in its original form, is from St. Francis of Assisi, beautifully sung by Patty – she pronounces her soulfulness function to transfer the song to the right. accompaniment is just piano and acoustic bass give. Other favorites are: “Wade in the Water,” “Never Grow Old” and “Waiting For My Child ‘. A few songs were not for me: “Coming Home To Me” is a great song, but for whatever reason, I was unable to accompany him or singing to Julie Miller, is “I Smell A Rat ‘closer to early rock n roll “as gospel – it’s an OK song, but not substantially to Leiber & Stoller’s. “Downtown Church” is an album Alright well, but it remains, if a little more, see “special” kind of music gives him the same at the same level as their other albums mentioned. “1000 Kisses” is my favorite album by Patty Griffin but it is rapproche.Rating: 4 / 5
I, like many others was a bit worried when I heard that the recent efforts by Patty Griffin has a gospel / spirituals recording was. For me, the fear is not that I like the genre, but I could not for a Patty Griffin album full of words from someone else. Patty is one of our great poets, and the world needs the gift of words – weary, wise, and now and then contain a glimmer of hope and lumière.Comme this type has many of these, Patty Griffin, and seems at ease on stage downtown Nashville, this house of worship. “People steal / cheat and we lie …” Thus, the record begins, and more than 14 Patty Griffin title fight between light and darkness that lives within us. It’s epic, and very, very belle.Je know that many people are not fans of “The Gospel”, but the good news is that this CD is really more of an “O Brother”, the art house – I’m playing very well in the kitchen when friends are plus.Check from “Death’s Got a warrant.” It’s a capella only muffled drums that resemble God stomping through the floor as he gets vous.La first time I heard the last song, “All Creatures of Our God and King” I had to what I was doing, stop at . It is so beautiful and pure, it feels almost … well, sacré.La revelation here is the voice of Patty. Frankly, I do not think they’ve ever heard of this property. “I Smell A Rat” is a rock, and the man she’s spitting nails. I did not know she had elle.Je’m ready to put “Church in the city to its catalog of high gloss. Like the rest of her work, she is tired, full of sadness and an awareness of the darkness that surrounds us. But this time it was a fire and although it could never penetrate a guarantee, a little light. Rating: 5 / 5
