I was not to be had, unfortunately, the recent revival on Broadway, caught in “Finian’s Rainbow”, because the comments all over hell, I read in every newspaper in New York. Hearing this recording curiously flat, now I wonder if I missed a lot. The main problem for me is how slavishly the folks at Encores! (which at first are) have the original 1947 orchestrations and vocal arrangements recreated. Of course, it is part of the Encores! Mission, but in this case is a serious disadvantage. Styles and tempos, which were suited to a war the public does not work in 2010. Put some jazz in the “Old Devil Moon”, for example, would not compromise will not work on the fundamental integrity of the song, if anything, would make it more accessible to audiences today, whose familiarity with the song was from Lena Horne, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, among many other information. If the dialog does not show that earlier more than sacrosanct (as the symbol of the intense rewriting of these clocks), nor its musical arrangements. As shown here, a wonderful score comes from old-fashioned (in the worst sense), unrelenting and ultimately very picturesque Lawrence Welk.En beyond the rudimentary production (another Encores! Brand – understandable given the economic Broadway) does not translate very good CD. Or maybe it was not particularly well developed, because everything sounds a bit metallic. The choir of 20 sounds, strangely enough, like a choir of 10 And they were like the proverbial tip of farmers behaving himself fortunate that so many people share music theater. Corny southern accents abound, and all the whistle and Hollerin ‘during the break dancing adds the impression that you are sitting in some infinite in the bizarre case of Broadway on “Hee Haw” épisode.Les performance lead in most cases are just okay, it unless the beautiful, expressive Kate Baldwin, another welcome addition to the ladies present at the tip of Broadway. Personally, I think Cheyenne Jackson crooning tenor role of Sarge inappropriate. (It would be a perfect Tony in “West Side Story.”) I prefer a more robust, a bit stronger and / or idiosyncratic. (I always think how – and authentic – Harry Connick would deliver the equipment.) The “golden rainbow I grew up with the soundtrack is wonderful for not-so-wonderful film by Francis Ford Coppola. The orchestrations are rich and beautiful arrangements and Fred Astaire, Petula Clark and Tommy Steele give performances pretty definitive. Woody seriously sexy (Don Francks is either still.) I will still have the version that lifeless, above all in relation to this, kindly exhumation, the classical Burton Lane / Yip Harburg score is transformed into an antiquated museum piece. I did not have to “Finian’s Rainbow” has been heard for many years. When I saw that there is a recording of a new Broadway production of the series, I thought I would update my knowledge of this music. Unfortunately, the show is so dated and the story so badly that, after I once, I have the album in a box of old CD’s that I am in a store revente.La good recording quality, natural, and the voices are OK, too . The show pits only under the weight of an incredible action, and very strange combination of tenants and an elf. I have not found a pot of gold at the end of Finian’s Rainbow. Rating: 1 / 5
I loved this CD. It is wonderful to hear the songs and orchestrations stereo digital text at the end. A thought – this new version really showed me how good the 1947 Original Cast Recording was. Although at 78 rpm records, it is almost as complete as it is restored, as amended. The only thing is it stops the music and dance a few times. This is very surprising for such an early effort. I grew up listening to the soundtrack of all original musical productions, Broadway and film. I loved then and love him anymore. I have found in St. James last year and this shot is so beautiful as in person. I am not a professional critic, maybe I do not know a great voice of the poor. I am an amateur drama and music is much better than the older version, with whom I grew up. Rating: 5 / 5
What a beautiful shot. You have really done their homework before they cast this show. It is music quite a pleasure to add to your repertoire of listening! Rating: 5 / 5
