We bought this to replace a Gevalia carafe that was driving us nuts. The Gevalia leaked all the time, it was difficult to screw the lid on and off, and almost impossible to seat the carafe under the spout. The Zoji takes up far less space, is far lighter, and screwing on the lid and replacing it under the spout are a breeze. It also doesn’t leak.
My husband is the coffee drinker, and I am the cleaner-upper, so I am very happy with the fact there is no coffee spilled everywhere and that my arthritic fingers are not laboring fruitlessly trying to get the lid back on. My husband is happy with the coffee and does not find the side controls to be a problem, nor does he find any of the procedure to fill the pot and get it ready to brew to be problematical. An added bonus is the timer feature and the fact that you can pour out a cup of coffee during the brewing process. He feels the indicators are very accurate and doesn’t understand why people said they were useless.
He also used to work in the restaurant industry and it is a big no-no to use hot water for cooking because of impurities than can occur in water heaters. So he only brews from cold and has never found the coffee to be too cool for his taste. He drinks coffee at temperatures so high that I burn my tongue, so the coffee from this maker must be more than merely lukewarm or passable.

We live in alternative energy house, so having a hot burner going for hours is not a good thing. We’ve had two previous insulated coffee pots (different brands) and they never made really hot coffee. It almost always had to be microwaved to bring it up to the right temp. This wonderful coffee pot is different. It makes perfectly hot coffee, tasty and fast too. My only complaint is you can’t get your hand into the carafe to give it a good wash, you need to use a bottle brush or similar device to clean it inside. I can live with that. I love love love the little cap that you put on top to keep it hot when it’s done. Hubby gets his early-a.m. coffee, and mine is still nice and hot when I get up at least 2 hours later. It fits fine under my cabinet, but if your cabinet is low, it may not fit under. It is a tall machine, but not excessively so. Buy it – you won’t be sorry. It does make a fairly loud gurgling sound as the coffee brews. I actually like that, as I then can hear when the coffee is done.
Great buy,By J. McginnisToo many choices for a stainless steel carafe coffee maker – I grew up on Mr. Coffee; what did i know – that a stainless steel carafe would make all the difference? This appliance is a great addition to our kitchen. After reviewing everything from basic to gourmet, from budget to the moon in pricing, we settled on this one due to the moderate price and the good basic features. For a few dollars more than the over-advertised Mr. Coffee and such standard department store fare, it’s a better option and a great buy. Best thing, it keeps the coffee very hot for over two hours, very warm for up to four hours – all without bitterness – The magic of a stainless steel carafe and no hot plate. It has a little stopper to keep the brew even warmer. We love it and would buy it again and certainly recommend it…
