This is a great book about the powerlessness of women in Britain, around 1850, and as the young Anne Sylvestre was finally a terrible fate, and threatens to triumph in the end overcome. As exciting as “The Woman in White.” Rating: 5 / 5
Man & Wife * * is a wonderful detective story, except that instead of the detective novel format, the schedule will be reversed and the crime, as we read. With exciting prose and plotting, Collins produced in the second quarter of the book, a car chase is almost as riveting as Dracula * 1897 * Chase Berg. The error has promised largely psychological and social woman, but undelivered marriage pregnant, and they must be very resourceful in identifying a way to keep her child herself, she hides her condition at the swarms of Victorian dress codes. So far, the nuances of Hardy * * Two on a Tower, but not a novel. It is rather a condemnation of Victorian male privilege and female differences with odd reality that the marriage law of Scotland at the time. It was written after Collins 1860 blockbuster novels. Accordingly, it has a finely nuanced understanding of human nature, which he polishes his beautiful novel (The Evil Genius * *) comedy. However, it was in 1870 together, and the proximity of his novels feeling quite like purple and Armadale * * * * Woman in White to leave Man & Wife * * again in the last quarter of a novel EHD is a style that feeling but not as campily over -the-top as the 60 volumes. Fortunately, it is easier wisely observed satire and comedy into the atmosphere along the route. He is stronger than other gem hidden Collins, * * Hide & Seek and more credible than * The Moonstone. * This film, I’m surprised this does not address, in a Gosford Park has style. Rating: 4 / 5
It was really a joy to read. It is an anti-mother-in-law book. In addition to divorce. Despite the horrors of the Victorian theme, I can not help but think that we modern folk could learn something from this book. Little things especially how to avoid the temptation and do not put your spouse into temptation. Probably the biggest thing I’ve learned, was not living at your mother-in-law with you. Good advice at any age. Rating: 4 / 5
In general, I was not the works of Wilkie Collins outside his “Big 4″ novels ( “The Woman in White”, “No Name impressed”, “Armadale,” and “The Moonstone”). The man and woman “was just behind” The Moonstone, “written the last of his novels really succeeded. Unfortunately, this novel is unjustly overlooked by fans of Wilkie Collins. It’s really a pleasure to read.” Man and Wife ‘is a complicated story of a young couple and their friends / family in which the consequences of the marriage laws lax captured during the Victorian era. In the time that the people were married in Scotland, where it has been just announced. No need for marriage licenses, blood tests, gifts, etc. Wilkie Collins to build tension works well and the book ends unexpectedly (and frightening). “The man and woman” is only as good as, say: “The Moonstone”. For beginners, I recommend the first test of Wilkie Collins’ The Woman in White No Name “or”(.. both) are my favorites. PS – I think the previous review is wrong. This book has nothing to do with the mother-in-law not intrusive. Rating: 4 / 5
